We have used podcasts for lunchtime listening since Tank started homeschooling in 2nd grade. I don’t know that I can remember everything we have used, but I will make a dent in the list. Most of these should be available via the more popular podcast apps, even if they aren’t producing new content, and I will do my best to link to the appropriate website.
Faith
- Paws & Tales :: a radio drama teaching biblical truths through story
- Keys for Kids :: a kid-oriented daily devotional
- Real Cool History for Kids :: features a different historical person or event, with a biblical world view
- The Same Page :: sadly, this one is no longer in production; however, there are 36 weeks of scripture memory, Shakespeare, poetry, and other beautiful things available
History
- The Radio Adventures of Dr. Floyd :: after listening to the same 8 seasons on a loop for years, this is still one of my kids’ favorites; a radio drama about a time-traveling scientist
- Forever Ago :: each episode explores the origin of an everyday item
- Young Ben Franklin :: narrative episode about Benjamin Franklin before when he was a kid
Music & Story
- Classics for Kids :: this could also have gone on the History list; several short episodes discuss the life, times, and music of various composers
- Classical Kids Storytime :: think fairy and folk tales
Science
- 30 Animals That Made Us Smarter :: pretty much what the title says; not necessarily made for kids, so there may be unfamiliar terminology
- Wow in the World :: silly and fun (and sometimes gross) science exploration
- Brains On! :: more science fun, usually exploring a single topic
- Earth Rangers :: we haven’t listened to this one, but I just came across it and plan to add it to my Stitcher
Harder to classify
- Smash Boom Best :: debate show geared for kids
- Pants On Fire :: a kid asks questions to determine which adult is the expert & which is a phony
- Molly of Denali:: another we haven’t listened to; kid-oriented mystery based on a character on PBS Kids
- Highlights Hangout :: gives voices to characters from Highlights Magazine
- Mystery Recipe :: from America’s Test Kitchen, exploring an ingredient each episode
